Broadway,
North Carolina,
referred to as “Mayberry Incarnate”, offers its Lee County
residents an exclusively timeless atmosphere.
Broadway lies just south of the county seat of Sanford, along
the Lee County
and Harnett County
lines.
Broadway began in the late 1800’s and immediately took
advantage of the abundance of pine trees by distilling turpentine.
As Broadway prospered, farming became the leading industry
and continues to play a significant role today.
A diverse mix of small and medium sized locally owned and
operated businesses make up the majority of Broadway’s steady
economy. Broadway acts as a bedroom community to Sanford and the
entire Triangle
region, while taking great pride in its local business
opportunities.
According to the 2000 Census, Lee County, NC
has more than 49,000 residents with more than half of that total
residing in Sanford.
Broadway is the only other town in Lee County and has just
over
1,000 residents. The
remainder of Lee County citizens live on small farms situated
throughout the countryside.
Broadway’s living accommodations range from modern style
houses to regal historical homes.
The historic homes stay in high demand with price tags
varying anywhere from $50,000 to $135,000, depending on the current
market. Newer homes typically sell from near $100,000 to $170,000
each. Farmhouses,
townhomes and moderately priced single-family residences are also
available.
Broadway offers residents one elementary school, two middle
schools and a high school. Nearby,
in Sanford,
are two private parochial schools from which to choose.
Also in Sanford is the main campus of Central
Carolina Community College, where area residents can
pursue degrees as well as partake of the interesting extra
curricular course offerings. In
addition, prospective students are within an hour’s drive of such
fine facilities as Duke
University, Fayetteville
State University and the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Broadway
residents experience a superb quality of life, unparalleled in the
region. Excellent
healthcare includes two dentists, a psychologist and a primary care
physician, with Central
Carolina Hospital a mere 8 miles away.
Residents have a number of civic groups to choose from and a
variety of recreational activities, such as the opportunities that
Optimist Ballpark has to offer.
Quiet streets afford the ideal setting for biking, jogging,
roller-blading and walking, while a ten-minute drive to Raven
Rock Park affords a wealth of activities sure to please the
outdoor enthusiast. Golfing
