Moore County and its patchwork of communities are conveniently located within an hour's drive of the capital city of Raleigh and within a two-hour's drive of Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Features of the stocked lake include a playground, picnic areas, walking trails and lighted facilities for tennis and volleyball. Other area parks include the Carolina Horse Park at Five Points in nearby Hoke County. Several hundred acres of protected land encompass this equestrian park, found between Aberdeen and Raeford. The Horse Park hosts the traditional Stoneybrook Steeplechase race here each April.

Residents are privy to affordable real estate, low rates of crime and a refreshingly moderate climate. Temperatures average 45 degrees in winter, while summer temperatures average 77 degrees. Opportunities for education abound. Excellent public schools pave the way to the area's top-notch higher learning facilities, such as the Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst.
